Mandatory face coverings in Richmond Hill

At the June 24 Council meeting, I made an emergency motion to ask staff to explore the possibility of enacting a bylaw to make face coverings mandatory in all public and commercial indoor establishments in the City of Richmond Hill. The motion passed 8-1. Richmond Hill is the first municipality in GTA to pass such a motion.

We are now awaiting York Region to implement a region-wide bylaw. York Region Council will be debating this issue at their July 9 meeting. If you want your voice heard at the Regional level, please contact our Regional representatives:

Official Plan Amendment – Car Dealerships on Leslie Street

Last week, I sent a survey to the residents of Ward 3 to collect their input regarding the employment land conversion proposal by staff to allow car dealerships on Leslie Street. I received over 1,000 responses in which 95% of the residents oppose this proposal.

Last night at the Council Public Meeting, on behalf of the residents, I sent a strong message to staff that this proposal is not supported by the community due to its close proximity to the existing residential area. Majority of Council also agreed with me.

I am confident that Council will make every effort to prevent this from happening. Thank you for voicing your concerns.

Stage 2 Reopening Update

Richmond Hill is taking a gradual and phased approach to reopening. We want to ensure safety protocols are in place to protect our community and staff from COVID-19.

Registration begins on June 30. Visit the Community Recreation Guide page for details.

Splash pads

Splash pads are now open (except Crosby Park and Richvale Athletic Field). Residents are reminded to practice physical distancing, wash their hands regularly and do not congregate in groups of more than 10. Visit the Splash Pads page for details.
